The Barrie Public Library welcomes your questions. There are a number of ways we can assist you:

Reference questions: 
(Reference, reading ideas, community information, school project, etc.)

  • In person, at the Library
  • By telephone during library hours. Call 705-728-1010 and choose either option # 3 - For Adult and Teen Reference and Information or option #4 for Children's Reference and Information. When leaving a general message outside of library hours, choose option #4 and library staff will respond during the next business day. PLEASE NOTE: We have no Live Answer service on Sundays.
  • Email Inquiries can be made using our online form below
    • Ask your reference questions
    • Get Reader's Advice - including questions about authors
    • Genealogy questions (lookups from indexes, newspapers, census documents, etc.) using the Genealogy Question form.
    • Please include your library card in the information so that we can serve you more quickly.

Collection questions: (requests for the library to purchase material, inter-library loans, etc.)

  • The library accepts suggestions for all material (books, DVDs, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, music CDs, etc).
  • For material published within the last 12 months, use the online form below.
  • For older titles, see our Interlibrary Loan Service page for more information. If you wish, we can set up an account for you to enter requests directly.
  • For material that is not yet published, please hold off on requesting until the publication date. The library purchases popular titles in most formats, and these titles will appear in our system shortly before the publication date.
  • The library considers all suggestions, but may not respond individually to each one.

Circulation questions (Patron records, fines or overdue material)

  • In person, at the Library

    option # 2 - Renewals, Holds and Patron Records. Choose option # 2 - Speak to a staff member. When leaving a general message outside of library hours, choose option #4, and library staff will respond during the next business day. PLEASE NOTE: We have no Live Answer service on Sundays.
