Public funding supports libraries, but often it is private gifts that make them flourish.
A donation in your name to a Barrie Public Library Endowment Fund will benefit Barrie forever. When planning your community bequests please consider making a lasting gift to your Library as part of your legacy.
Barrie Public Library deeply appreciates the love of libraries and the community commitment shown through the establishment of these Library Endowment Funds.
The K’Leigh Cundall
Children’s Library Endowment Fund
The K’Leigh Cundall Children’s Library Endowment Fund was set up by the Cundall family in memory of their daughter, K’Leigh. K’Leigh had a great love of books and of libraries, and she always wanted a library of her own. This endowment is an extension of K’Leigh’s love of books and of libraries and of children. Every year the interest from this endowment comes to Barrie Public Library to be used for Children’s Services.
The William C. Porter
Library Endowment Fund
Bill Porter was a strong believer in public libraries, and especially in the way Barrie Public Library keeps on enriching our community. Bill was a lifelong library supporter and a very dedicated member of the Library Board of Trustees and, after his death, his family looked for a special way to honour his memory. Every year the interest from this endowment comes to Barrie Public Library to be used to enrich Library Services.
So what is an Endowment Fund? An Endowment Fund can play a key role in meeting the needs of the future. By keeping the principal intact and only spending the interest, it becomes a permanent source of seed money for new, innovative projects as well as current programmes. An Endowment Fund gift can also enable the individual donor to expand their philanthropic dollars by maximizing tax deductions and investing those dollars wisely. Your principal investment will continue to grow and generate further investment income every year. The K’Leigh Cundall Children’s Library Endowment Fund and the William C. Porter Library Endowment Fund are invested locally with the Barrie Community Foundation and help ensure the future financial health of your Library.
How can I donate to the endowment funds? Everyone can help to build the endowment funds and help ensure the future of library services here in Barrie. Donations can be made through the Barrie Public Library or directly through the Barrie Community Foundation. Please note that cheques should be made payable to “Barrie Community Foundation” with a notation designating the endowment fund of your choice.
How does the Library benefit if the endowment funds are part of the Barrie Community Foundation? The Barrie Community Foundation invests and oversees the management of the endowment fund, but every year the interest from the endowments come to Barrie Public Library to be used for library services. No other groups or organisations can benefit from this fund – only the Barrie Public Library
What is a community foundation? A community foundation:
- is a locally run public foundation for the benefit of locals
- builds and prudently manages permanent endowment funds
- is a centre for community philanthropy
- identifies and responds to changing community needs
- grants to various areas of community service, once funds are established
