Hi. I'm Marvin B. Moose (the B. is for Book), Barrie Public Library's Mascot.

I was first thought of in September of 2003 when library staff was asked to come up with ideas of names for a library mascot. Our staff put their thinking caps on, something they are quite good at, and came up with a ton of suggestions. From those, a list of different animals was made and sent around for staff to vote on. I could have been a "Reading Raccoon" or a "Reading Rhino", but "Book Moose" was the winner, and Marvin B. Moose was part of that.

I was born, so to speak, in the small town of Carnarvon, Ontario at the home of Senitt puppets. The library purchased me and brought me to my new home. My arrival was cloaked in secrecy. I was a mystery package all wrapped up and presented to the public in the middle of November. Clues were provided and the children were invited to guess my identity. I was unwrapped and presented to the public at the 2003 Trim the Tree programme.

I really enjoy my new home and like making new friends with all the children that visit me at the library. From time to time, I even get to take the "Library on the Loose" and visit exciting places around town. I am particularly fond of dressing up for special occasions and can regularly be found wearing baseball uniforms, Hallowe'en costumes, winter clothing and other items according to the season or the holiday. Plan to visit me on the Children's floor and see what I am up to.

You may think that moose move slowly through the forest – but we have built-in radar to detect things!  I have lots of confidence, so let me help you find your way through the terrain of our website – we can find things together!
