READOPOLY is Barrie Public Library’s summer reading game, offered in conjunction with the TD Summer Reading Program. This year it runs from June 26th - September 2nd. Readopoly is a self directed reading program based on a board game format or, for 2017, a bingo card format. The reading game encourages both beginning and proficient readers to read and use the library over the summer months. Children may also be read to by an adult if they are not yet readers.
Each year staff use the TD Summer Reading Program theme as the starting point for our Readopoly game. Children from ages 3 years to those entering grade six in the fall are invited to play and may join at any time during the program's time span. Children may also play the game in French when bilingual staff are available. Children may play Readopoly at a Children's Information desk whenever the library is open but are limited to one turn a day. Each "square" on our "gameboard/bingo card suggests a fun theme or type of reading to explore, such as sports or picture books in print or digitally. When the child completes 4 reading "squares", they receive a free book to keep. Children may receive up to two free books each summer but they may play around the board as many times as they like. Registration is done at the Children's Information Service Points. The program is free.
