Sticker explained

Stickers are placed on the spine of books to help identify a genre or a special collection found in the library. They are used in all areas of the library.  There are a number of different types or genres of fiction in the young adult collection.  If you are exploring the young adult area you will see the following stickers:

Biography sticker

BIOGRAPHY – Factual accounts of the life of a person. These books are interfiled with other non-fiction material.

Canada Flag sticker

CANADIAN FLAG – Identifies works written by a Canadian author.

Christian sticker

CHRISTIAN FICTION – Designates novels with a Christian theme.

Fantasy stickerFantasy sticker

FANTASY – Identifies novels that have imaginary characters, magic and other supernatural forces as part of the plot, theme and/or setting.

Graphic Novel sticker

GRAPHIC NOVELS – A novel that combines text and art in a comic-strip format.

Horror stickerHorror sticker

HORROR – Fiction that elicits the emotions of horror including fear, dread or dismay.

Mystery stickerMystery sticker

MYSTERY – Fiction in which solving a crime or series of crimes is the primary element of the story.

Reference sticker

REFERENCE – These resources, including encyclopedias, almanacs, and atlases, are for in library use only.

Romance stickerRomance sticker

ROMANCE – A novel that focuses on a developing love relationship.

Science Fiction sticker

SCIENCE FICTION – Fiction dealing principally with the impact of actual or imagined science on society or having a scientific factor as an essential component.

Series sticker

SERIES – A set of novels that share common themes, characters, or settings, but where each novel has its own titl+e and storyline. Novels that are part of a series are shelved together.

White Pine sticker

WHITE PINE – Identifies Canadian young adult fiction nominated by the Ontario Library Association for the White Pine Award.
